Hey there, book buddies! Today, I want to share this wonderful quote from the amazing poet, Phillis Wheatley.

“Imagination! who can sing thy force? Or who describe the swiftness of thy course?” – Phillis Wheatley

In a world that often seeks to stifle, not only creativity, but freedom itself, and which imposes rigid boundaries, the words of Phillis Wheatley serve as a powerful reminder of the boundless potential that resides within each of us. Imagination is not just a fanciful notion, or a fluffy idea. It’s a force to be reckoned with, a catalyst for transformation and a beacon of hope in a world yearning for inspiration. And it’s our not-so-secret weapon for shaking things up, pushing boundaries, and making the world a brighter place.

Ms. Wheatley was a woman who defied the constraints imposed upon her by society through her remarkable literary talent. She was the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry in the United States. Her collection of poems, titled Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, was published in 1773 when she was around twenty years old. She was born in West Africa in modern day Senegal or Gambia. Her date of birth is not exactly known but it is believed that she was born around 1753. She was captured by a slave trader when she was seven or eight years old. Among her many poignant verses, the quote above stands out as a testament to the incomparable power of the magical spark that sets our minds on fire and takes us on wild adventures without even leaving our seats: imagination.

As we navigate this wild – and sometimes perilous – adventure called life, let’s embrace the magic of imagination and let our creativity run wild. Who knows how far it will take us, and what amazing things we’ll dream up next?
